Dear Reader,
Your eyes lit up & I swear you grew an inch as you told me about your idea. You spoke quickly, with passion, about a bright possibility - a dream, a call, a purpose…
Everyone around us felt the energy shift, as well. For a moment, hints of excitement & exhilaration filled the air. We smiled & said “YES!” And then you said:
“Maybe in my next life.”
My heart broke in half.
Dramatic, maybe - and true. My heart broke when I heard you dismiss the quiet, daring voice that radiated from your core. Because later is never guaranteed, “later” almost always feels exactly the same as the present, & NOW is the perfect time to begin.
Later is never guaranteed.
By stating, “maybe in my next life,” you implied you will have a “next life.” Now I’m not here to say whether that’s true, or not - because I don’t know. And, what I know for certain is the existence of this life. What I know for certain is how strongly I hear your present desire - in THIS life.
“Later” almost always feels exactly the same.
“Maybe in my next life,” assumes your “next life” will be different in some way. Reader, I ask you: What about your next life would be different?
Would you have more courage? Would you finally give yourself permission? Would you make different choices, earlier in life? Are you implying that in your “next life,” you’d follow your heart instead of your wallet, or instead of your fears, or instead of society’s heavy expectations?
Because if it was truly YOUR next life, I predict YOU would feel exactly the same as you do in this moment: you’d long for something specific, just as you do now. And you’d be scared, or overwhelmed, & unwilling to rock the boat… I predict in your next life, you’d choose the “safe” route, too - because in your “next life,” you’d still be you.
NOW is the perfect time to begin.
Here’s the empowering part: At any moment of any day, you can choose to begin your “next life.”
Tomorrow could be your “next life.”
2020 could be your “next life.”
& People do it all the time: New year’s resolutions, career changes, relationship endings, marriage proposals, retirement, school…
Reader, I see the child inside you dreaming great dreams - dreams that align with your soul & passion, & your greatest potential on this earth.
And right in front of me, you dismissed it.
My heart ACHES for you to say, “maybe in THIS life.” Even that small shift sends a surge of excitement up my spine, reflects a smile on my face & brightens my eyes… Because in that instant, I see a new potential. Because when you give yourself a chance, I feel the entire world shift in preparation for your true arrival.
And after a few moments, or months, or years of proclaiming, “maybe in this life,” - I hope you’ll sing: “Maybe, right now.”
And maybe, following what you’re called to do turns out to be far less scary than you imagined. Maybe saying “yes, now!” is all it takes for the universe to command, “all things go!” - & release the opportunities that were waiting for you (for years!)
Maybe you’ll feel more alive than you ever had before - & rather than considering years wasted stating “it’s too late” or “I’m too old,” you’ll beam with gratitude for the most full years of your life yet to be experienced.
Dear reader,
Please don’t deny what you desire.
You hear it so clearly. & although you’re making up a story that everyone else will be surprised by your “sudden shift” or “random new hobby” - I have an inkling the reactions may be the opposite. “Finally!” “That makes so much sense!” “YES!”
Just as you will feel pride for yourself, I will feel proud of you. Just as you will radiate with greater joy, your friends & family will celebrate by your side.
“Maybe in this life,” reader. “Maybe, now.”
